I remember at 25 already having made a name for myself at the school. Which translated into me dancing in the Oscar Myer hot dog costume for the fifth grade traveling show that school year. I helped with that show every year till I left and I loved it. My classroom was in the same hall as the fifth grade and they really took me in as part of their team.
During spirit week that school year they had a day where you were supposed to dress like a rock star. That day we also had an early morning faculty meeting, and I was running late. As the principal went around the room seeing who was and wasn’t there he noticed I wasn’t there and said something to the effect of, “She’s probably getting into costume.” Mere moments later I walked through the door dressed all in black, bright red streaks in my hair, and a tattoo drawn on my arm. I’m really quite glad I’d dressed up for school that day. People just expected me to fully jump in on days like that, and I always did, and I always loved it.
It was great that I’d found a niche at the school and I filled it real well. It made going to work all the more fun.
I also started this website at 25 (the blog would come two years later). So from here on out it’s going to be interesting to see if I can remember any stories I’m comfortable sharing online that I haven’t shared yet.
My recommendation to her was just to post links to other blog entries for 26-30. :brett:
I loved hearing about all of your teaching stories. 🙂
How fun!
