Happy Dr. Seuss Day!
Dr. Seuss, or Theodor Seuss Geisel, turns 107 today. So today we celebrate all things Seuss.
I have a little Dr. Seuss quote book that has a quote for just about any situation. Some are from his books and others just stand on their own. This is one of my favorites:
I’ve heard there are troubles of more than one kind,
some come from ahead and some come from behind.
But I’ve brought a big bat. I’m all ready you see,
Now my troubles are going to have trouble with me.
β Dr. Seuss
Who doesn’t have troubles in this life? We all do. And several times I have wanted nothing more than to take a very large bat to them and just beat the crap out of them. In all but a few instances this is not a very good literal way to deal with problems. Vermin might be the exception, for which I do actually pull out my hockey stick (I don’t have a bat).
But figuratively I can beat my troubles with a bat. Some figurative bats are pure persistence, researching other options, making it someone else’s problem (which is the secret to invisibility), and even, although it might seem counter-intuitive at times, “cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then … stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed” (Doctrine & Covenants 123:17).
Standing still is a very strange bat, but the key to it being a good bat is first doing all you can, and then stand still with faith, that utmost assurance. It’s a two part bat. And those two parts, one smaller part being wielded by me, and one much larger part by God, can cause a lot of trouble for my troubles.
What is your favorite Dr. Seuss book? What are your favorite Dr. Seuss quotes? Or even, what are some of your favorite bats?
I love the Somebody Else’s Problem field. π
Ooooh there are so many. Silly, meaninful, insightful, toungtwisting etc.
Some of the funniest ones have doule meanings which I won’t go into here. π
so how about
First, I’ll make a
quick trick brick stack.
Then I’ll make a
quicktrick block stack.
or….
Up at Lake Winna-Bango…the far northern shore…
Lives a huge herd of moose, about sixty or more,
And they all go around in a big happy bunch
Looking for nice tender moose-moss to munch.

“Did I ever tell you that Mrs. McCave
Had twenty-three sons and she named them all Dave?”

A poem worth memorizing. :brett:
Add this to my list of favorite Dr. Seuss quotes:
I’m glad I found someone with compatible weirdness.
There is nothing weird about a chubby cross-eyed penguin. :brett:
It’s not so much the cross-eyed-ness, but rather how the penguins in our house always seem to be larger than the elephants that’s the weird part. :lisa:
I remembered another one of my favorite quotes for FOX IN SOCKS
“Come now, come now, you don’t have to be so dumb now.”
I have been thinking a lot about that one during someof the projects I have been working on lately. :silly:
