I’m so lucky

This post, post number 1111, is dedicated to Brett (because he said he’d care when the post was #1111).

The phrase “I’m so lucky,” or as it was originally, “you’re so lucky” is a bit of a joke between us. It is the result of an unfortunate pause one day when I was speaking. We have several jokes that are either the result of me pausing at the wrong place or moving seamlessly from one topic to another entirely unrelated topic. For example, reading a scripture about the martyrdom of a prophet and moving seamlessly to comment on how much I like it when Brett rubs my back which came out something like, “And thus Abinadi suffered death by fire. I like that.” There’s also the times when I don’t finish the first topic and move on, which resulted in “Apparently I’m cuddling.” Brett’s real good to understand my grammar.

At the risk of being too mushy gushy in public, here are 1111 reasons why I’m the lucky one in this relationship. But don’t worry, I’ve told all of this to him personally. I never want to be one of those people who gets up in public to say I don’t tell him how much I love him often enough.

  1. I ended up having to be gone for nine hours on Saturday. And I came home to a completely clean house. He knew it was one of the things I was stressing about and that it was the only thing he could help with.
  2. I might put the laundry in the washer and drier each week, but Brett is the one that sorts and folds it.
  3. I think if we calculated it out I only cook dinner half the time. He’ll even bbq in the middle of a monsoon storm.
  4. He says I help warm the bed too, but my contribution is negligible compared to him. I’d been contemplating buying an electric blanket before we got married. No need now.
  5. He freely admits that while he understands the words coming out of my mouth when I’m explaining some project I want to do, that he can’t imagine what it will look like when it’s over. And yet he has complete faith in me that it will work out and goes along with it till the end.
  6. Piano music.
  7. Long talks (some of them in writing, so there’s proof we said that) and quiet moments.
  8. I know I can depend on his strength, and not just his physical strength to open all the jars.
  9. He makes me feel needed, even in his sleep. If I’m up late grading on the couch I’ll hear him not sleeping soundly in the other room. But if I grade in bed with my lap top and let him at least cuddle with my leg he sleeps soundly. If I get up in the middle of the night I’ll come back to just a sliver of bed left because he’s kept rolling over trying to find me. He hasn’t rolled off the bed yet though.
  10. I mentioned in passing one morning that I’d always wanted one of those super soft terry cloth bath robes. Several months later he got me one for Christmas. He makes my dreams come true.
  11. He helped me fulfill my dream of working chains at a football game. We did five! (and we’re on the books to do the next season too!)
  12. I get to play with the yard and grow plants and feed birds.
  13. He goes to the quilt show with me and lets me tell him all about the quilts and the different blocks and then starts giving them his own names.
  14. Crinkle nosed kisses.
  15. He knows me, understands me, and married me anyway.

Admit it, I’m the lucky one. Happy 2.25 years!

    3. *Even* bbq in the middle of a monsoon storm? That’s the best time to bbq!

    9. She is clearly very concerned that I actually am going to roll out of bed. She’s started putting her body pillow in my way as a barrier. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.

    13. I’m pretty sure that “flying chicken” was not made up by me. I’m sure that whatever kind of bird you call it is of little consequence to hard-core quilters.

    15. 1111 reasons! Ha! I get it!

    Love you!

      9. We’re going to switch sides of the bed organically when I come back one night and don’t have any room left.

      13. There are several blocks that have different names depending on what part of the world you are in. In your world, they are chickens.

      15. I knew you’d get it!

How’d you get Hallmark to put our sayings on a card? 😉

      Love you too!

Because I’ve found my soulmate, too, I enjoyed reading this tribute. Very sweet. I especially like #5. Rings true for Drex and me.

I kind of disagree with #5. Sometimes I don’t understand the words coming out of her mouth. I do have complete faith in her though, which I think was the main point. :brett:
