You would have to go back to October 1999 – March 2001 to find a period of time when I consistently got eight hours of sleep. That was my mission, it was the rule. (My dad said that would be the most sleep I ever got in my life.) Before then, it was probably elementary school. As much as I love to sleep, it just isn’t a priority. That, and my body clock doesn’t function on normal business hours.
But we added some extra aspects to our exercise challenge this time around. We still have to get in a certain number of cardiovascular exercise each week, for which we get one point each week. But then we also get one point each week for doing a personal challenge. And for me that means eight hours of sleep at least five nights a week.42D
Because the time I have to wake up is pretty determined each day, I have to go to bed at a specific time each night or I don’t get my eight hours. I have changed my focus on sleep. Instead of thinking about getting sleep, I now think about getting to bed. Small difference, but it’s apparently the difference I needed to make. The chance for a prize at the end of our three-month bet is also appealing and motivational too.
We are half way through, and I’ve only missed four days so far. Makes me feel a little guilty for all I put my parents through, especially my dad, when I was in high school. Sorry.
