I caught part of the PBS show American Experience tonight. They are doing a series about The Presidents of the United States and tonight it was the first half of the part about President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
They had a quote from his wife, Eleanor Roosevelt, that really stood out to me and I’m glad I heard it. It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while and I really like how she put it.
I’ve heard people say to him that, “If we do this, we don’t know if we will be successful,” and I’ve seen my husband time after time say, “There are very few things we can know beforehand. We will try and if we find we are wrong, we will have to change.”
I don’t know what is going to happen next in my life. I don’t know what the full results of my decisions will be. But I am going to keep moving. And if it turns out I am wrong, then I will make the necessary changes and keep moving in the new direction.
That is all any of us can expect. That is all any of us can do.
And some times it is nice to get a reminder that any mistakes I am making now, at least they are a whole different set than the ones I made before. I’m glad people are patient with me while I learn.
Also, there is a HUGE difference between worms and tiny snakes. There is more to it than just size. Eeeggks! Talk about heebie jeebies. Maybe sandals aren’t the best choice of footwear here.
