On Thursday, the California Supreme Court ruled on the issue of marriage. They said that same-sex couples have a right to marry. I’m disappointed with the state of California.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints issued their response the next day. I think it is very well worded. It is an emotional issue. But marriage is not what man defines it to be. Marriage is what God defines it to be. And only marriage between a man and a woman has been ordained of God. Anything else is man’s perversion of a sacred organization.
In 1995, the LDS Church issued The Family: A Proclamation to the World. It is a beautiful document. It wonderfully describes marriage, the divine nature of each of us, the roles of men and women within the family, how to strengthen the home, and warns what will happen to society if the family is not supported. I believe all of that. Twice it states how central to God’s plan marriage and the family are.
I look forward to the day when I will be able to enjoy the blessings of marriage. And I will work to make sure that marriage, whether I enjoy it in this life or the next, remains as it was set up by God before the foundation of the world.
