Scientists have gone to the depths of the platypus genome and come back with their discoveries. The New York Times reported their findings on what a platypus looks like on the inside. I think it’s interesting.
But what I found most peculiar was that, while a platypus mom nurses her young (that are born in eggs), they don’t have nipples. They nurse them through the abdominal skin.
How does that work? Can a baby platypus just suck on any part of mom’s stomach and get fed?
