It occurred to me this week that the city of Tucson does not own any snow plows, at all, none whatsoever. That’s not really a problem because they pretty much never need one. But it was fun to figure out anyway.
Tucson does have mountain lions though. And there was an article in the newspaper about recent sightings, along with a list of things to do if you ever encounter one.
-
If you encounter a mountain lion, stay calm and do not run. Slowly back away and keep your eyes on the lion.
-
Make yourself look bigger. Raise your arms over your head.
-
If the lion becomes aggressive, fight back with whatever you have and stay standing. (Because when I’m out running I have a lot of things at my disposal to fight back with, yup I do.)
-
Supervise children, keep them close and in sight at all times.
-
Be aware of your surroundings. Don’t use cell phones or listen to music because it reduces your level of awareness.
-
Report sightings to Game and Fish at 628-5376.
I’ll have to remember that when I’m out running. I might also be rethinking one or two running routes I was considering. This quote in particular does not do much to make me feel much safer: “Other than eating pets, they’re really not a problem for people,” he said.
The head cold I was getting Friday settled down in my chest last night and today I have no voice. It made church quite interesting as I was very limited in my participation. The look on the Sunday School teacher’s face when she tried to hand me a scripture to read and I said “no” as best I could was real funny. And I appreciated Brett for making the comment I wanted to make for me. The part that cracked me up the most though was people showing concern and telling me to call them if I needed anything. Yup. That’s going to work real well. I can’t talk. So if I need something, I’ll call and tell you on the phone what I need. I’m sure they didn’t think that one through all the way. But at least they were thinking of me.
Call me If you need anything. 🙂
Mom
You are a mountain lion. You know that right? Cougar = Mountain lion. You’ll be fine!
😉
Oooooh!! Cougars!! I love Mountain Lions… but I’d rather erm… see them from a safe location, like on the other side of the bars at a zoo, or from the other side of a TV screen.
