Tyler and Anjuli gave me this DVD for Christmas. It’s one of my new favorites. All the shorts in one place! Hours of hilarity (okay, it’s not that long), without any dialogue for the most part (which I find real cool, talk about good visual story telling). And they started clear back in 1984, which might not seem like much, but it’s really amazing. There’s always at least one moment in each where it’s a full out belly laugh. And Pixar does the best commentaries. Some day I want to go visit them.
I’m in love with Pixar.
For One Man Band – the girl’s violin solo is called “Girl Gone Wild” and for it’s speed it’s supposed to be played “fast as hell.”
The Engl 1010 students had to critique “Luxo Jr.” and one of the kids said something like “I’m not impressed with anything made in the 80s because it was all stupid, so I was really surprised that anything this good was made before I was born.” I laughed and laughed. Oh, the conceit of youth!
Oh jeez. I just did the math. The freshmen in my class were barely born in 1989. I suddenly feel quite old, older even than knowing that my kindergartners up in Utah were born after I graduated college.
I doubt that kid understands the true genius that was “Luxo Jr.”
