About five years ago a movie came out called The Rookie starring Dennis Quaid. It was the summer after I graduated from BYU and I was looking for a job as a teacher. One of my roommates and I went to see it at the dollar theater. It’s a teacher movie, and a sports movie, even if the sport is baseball, and as a general rule I love those movies. This movie inspired me. I left the theater feeling very strongly about being able to follow my dreams to be a teacher. And I have done that for the last five years.
The movie was on TV tonight and I happened to be flipping through the channels and find it just as it was starting. I own it, but haven’t watched it for at least a year because the last time I tried, the VCR ate it and I still haven’t gotten around to buying it on DVD. It was still inspiring. But now I have different dreams. And at least for tonight, I feel real good about following them instead.
