Lake Superior State University has issued their list of banished words and phrases for 2007. I love their annual lists. It would be great if people would adhere to them, particularly advertisers and news reporters since they are one of the biggest contributors to the lists each year. The list can be found at http://www.lssu.edu/banished/current.php.
I agree with the banishing of the phrase “armed robbery/drug deal gone bad.” From the point of view of a law abiding citizen, wouldn’t a robbery or drug deal that goes bad be one that actually happened, no matter the severity? Only the criminal would see a foiled robbery or deal as one that went bad.
I also agree with the i-Anything ban, but that’s because I dislike the iCompany.
There are times I would like to go to this mystical place called “missing” for a vacation for a few days. And any mistyped word bugs me. I heard that a university is now allowing students to use text messaging/IM abbreviations in essays. It’s the end of intellect.
And of course my bathroom and kitchen have very little to boast about, unless they want to boast about the linoleum that is most likely older than me.
