I’m addicted to sewing. And while quilts will always be my favorite, I’m discovering how fun it can be to sew clothes for myself. It’s a good thing I work at a fabric store now or I’d be in a lot of trouble. Although maybe I wouldn’t be in so much trouble if I didn’t work there. I’m not sure.
I sewed myself a new dress Saturday night. It looks great (photo 1 & photo 2), and when I figured out how much the material cost me, the whole dress was under $6. You can’t get that kind of a deal anywhere. Of course it took time to make it, especially since I tried to sew the neck facing on the outside of the dress first and then had to unpick it. But it’s mine, and it fits, and I love it.
I have another skirt that is half done, and yet another skirt and pair of pants that I have the material for and just haven’t started on yet too.
While I was at it, I thought, it’s been a long time since I made myself a new blanket. Sure I have a whole bunch of other blankets I need to make for other people that I really should finish, or at least start. But this fabric was speaking to me. I looked at it for three weeks before buying it, so that’s got to count for something, right? Last night I cut out all the pieces for the quilt. I cut out matching pjs while I was at it too.
Tonight I think I’ll cut out at least one more blanket I need to get done. There are three that need to be cut out though. Well, maybe four. Okay, five quilts I need to finish some time this year for other people that I already have everything for and haven’t even started. I have two quilt tops completely finished, one is even basted and ready for quilting. I need to get those finished. I have another quilt just in blocks that I’ll need to figure out what to do with eventually, but they are Christmas blocks. I have another Christmas quilt that is cut out and the blocks are partially sewn. I should probably finish that one before Christmas too. I have a wall hanging I need to add borders to as well. And then I need to make another baby blanket some time real soon too, but I don’t have anything for that one yet.
That makes more than ten quilt projects I’m in the middle of, or should be in the middle of. Does mental planning count as having started a quilt?
Yes, I think I have a serious quilting/sewing addiction. But at least I won’t be naked or cold as a result. 🙂
