Yesterday was Dr. Seuss’s birthday. He was born March 2, 1904. I was looking around on the internet and found a list of all the books he wrote, both as Dr. Seuss where he both wrote and illustrated them, and as Theo. LeSieg (Geisel backwards) where someone else did the illustrations. I have several Theo. LeSieg books, yet I had never put it together that he wrote them. I feel so ashamed. As I was looking over the list though, I noticed how many of the I have memories with. So, in honor of Dr. Seuss, I thought it would be appropriate to share those memories.
The 500 Hats of Bartholmew Cubbins – Hat day is a frequent thing at school. Last year we did it for Dr. Seuss’s birthday, probably more for The Cat in the Hat than this book. We usually do it during spirit week as well. And since I can never pick just one hat, I wear them all. I stack as many as I can on top of my head, and one year, I even wore all of my baseball hats looped into my belt. The kids love it and always give me a bad time about it, saying I was just supposed to wear one hat. I tell them it was never specified how many hats we were supposed to wear. I loved Bartholomew’s hats growing up and I always wondered why the new hats kept getting bigger and bigger, when it would seem there would have to be smaller hats underneath instead.
More memories to come.
